Hair extensions FAQs

Q: What got you interested in hair extensions?

A: I was seeing a lot of extensions out on social media and realized that they are becoming a more common service to offer in salon’s. I saw a need in the Madison area for more knowledge and experience in the hair extension department to help guests become more comfortable and less afraid of professional hair extension services. I also love being able to offer a service that is truly life transforming.

Q: Why did you pick the HAND TIED HAIR EXTENSIONS?

A: I have done just about every type of hair extension method available on today’s market. A Lot of them are either too harsh on the clients hair, or are very time consuming during the installation and maintenance. I’m always on the lookout for the next best thing. With Kacey being a celebrity extension artist, I knew that she was going to be very particular in her method and training. I also knew her method and hair she used had to be top notch if she was using if for celebrities.

Q: What can hair extensions offer your guest’s?

A: I see a lot of guests who have a hard time getting their hair to grow out. They work really well for for anyone who wants to add 3-4 inches of length or to help create fullness. Hair must be chin length in order to add hair extensions.

Q: What is the biggest concern guests have about getting hair extensions?

A: The biggest concern we hear from guests is that extensions will damage their natural hair. Hair extensions are applied to the hair closest to the scalp and can create hair tension that causes breakage. The Kacey Welch Method uses only 10% of the natural hair. This helps divide up the tension evenly, reducing stress to the hair. With the HAND TIED HAIR EXTENSIONS and proper at home maintenance, you should have minimal if any hair damage.

In my professional opinion when this hair extension method is installed correctly and the guest is following the proper at home maintenance routine you really shouldn’t see any breakage.

Q: What are some points of difference with The Kacey Welch Method?

A: The hair is sewn to rows of silicone lined beads that are applied following the natural curve of the head shape. This allows for the extension hair to create a more balanced look. The purpose of the silicone is to help grip the hair, which supports the weight of the extension hair. We have found that the silicone lined beads also are gentler on your natural hair than regular metal beads.

The amount of time you spend in the salon for the installation process is cut in half compared to other methods. This saves you time while allowing you to get the length and fullness you have always wanted.

Q: What is the Maintenance for the hair extensions?

A: The biggest part of a successful journey wearing hair extensions is how you take care of them at home. I cannot emphasise that enough. Here are the pointers that I go through with all my guests.

Getting them moved back up every 6-8 weeks is important. They grow out with your natural hair and you want to keep them close to the scalp. If they get too grown out they can start tangling in with your natural hair which could cause your weft to go bad.

We have a specific brand of professional shampoo and conditioners that we recommend. Along with a special hair extension oil and brush. I tell everyone hair extensions are an investment and using the right tools to keep them in good shape will help with the longevity of the extension hair.

Shampooing can be drying for the extensions. I recommend 3-4 days if you can get away with it.

You should apply a couple pumps of the oil to the mid lengths and ends of the extensions and then use the brush to thoroughly brush your extensions out from scalp to ends. The hair extension brush is designed to use at the scalp area and not cause the extensions to come out. Your extension specialist will go over with you the right technique for brushing at your appointment. If the extensions are not brushed the right way you could get matting at the scalp and it could cause the wefts to become damaged and unusable.

Putting the oil in twice a day helps keep the extension hair hydrated. During the process of making the extension hair they add a silicone layer to help add shine and protect the extension hair. With washing and heat styling that silicone layer can wear off. So using this oil will help to keep the extensions soft and stop them from becoming brittle and breaking off. Allowing you to get more wear out of the hair.

I also let my guests know to expect extra time on styling them. They will take longer to dry and style due to the extra length and volume.

The extension hair lasts anywhere from 6 months to a year, give or take depending on how well you take care of them. To keep installing them past their prime could cause damage to your hair. You will need to install a new set of hair at that time.

Q: What type of hair do you use?

A: We work with professional reputable companies that use ethically sourced hair. Indian hair is the most available and cost-effective hair. Indian hair does tend to be a little courser than Russian or European types that is why you should use a heat protectant for styling and be aware of the temperature settings on your hot styling tools. Your extensions will always look the best when they have a curl or wave added to them.

There are many types of wefts available on the market. We specifically use hand tied & seamless wefts. Those terms apply to how the hair is attached to the weft. I find machine tied to be too heavy and bulky at the scalp area. The hand-tied and seamless are very lightweight and move easily with your natural hair.

Q: How does your pricing work?

A: We charge per ounce of hair, we will let you know through a consultation how much hair is needed for your customized installation. We have listed our prices down below, but do not guarantee the exact cost until we see you in person and have done a consultation.

We separate the cost of the hair from the installation price. So the amount of hair you will need is a non-refundable upfront cost that will be paid prior to booking your appointment. You cannot secure an appointment for extensions application until the deposit is made.
